State Says Restaurants and Bars Need All-Night Permits for NYE

New York State is requiring restaurant and bar owners who want to remain open after normal hours on New Year's Eve to file for permission.

NEW YORK CITY —The good news: New Year's Eve falls on a Friday this year, so you'll have two full days to get rid of that hangover.

The bad news: If you're a restaurant or a bar with an on-premises liqour license and you'd like to treat revelers to a long night and early morning of celebrations, you're going to need a permit from the State Liquor Authority to do so.

The authorization, called an "All-Night Permit" will allow those approved to remain open after the stipulated hours — even beyond 4 a.m.

But businesses must apply for the permit and the deadline is already looming. Applicants must file with the state no later than Nov. 16.
