Suspects Steals Car, Hits Cyclist During NYC Police Chase

NEW YORK CITY — A man who was driving a stolen car slammed into a cyclist in Manhattan on Wednesday as he tried to escape from police.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m. near West 3rd Street and Mercer Street, police said.

The suspect — in a Ford Fusion— drove into a bike lane as he was being pursued by a number of NYPD squad cars.

A 44-year-old cyclist riding in the bike lane was hit. The driver continued to run a red light near the intersection of Mercer Street and Bleecker Street, witnesses told the New York Post.

The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition with injuries to his head and leg.

Police had been trying to arrest the suspect for alleging selling narcotics before the incident, according to the report.
