NEW YORK, NY — New Yorkers name their dogs after everything from beers to "Sex and the City" characters, but the top choices are pretty basic. Max and Bella are the most popular male and female names for pups in New York City this year, according to data from Rover.com.
The web-based pet-sitting service used its own database to determine the top dog names across the nation and in particular cities. Eight of New York's top 10 female dog names and seven of the top 10 male names are the same as the top 10 nationwide.
But New Yorkers have some unique tastes, too. Dogs in the city are 33 percent more likely to have alcohol-themed names such as Jameson, Whiskey or Guinness.
