These Public High Schools Are The Best In The NYC Area: U.S. News

NEW YORK CITY – New York City public schools have taken seven of the top ten spots for the best in the whole of the metro area, according to new rankings from U.S. News & World Report.

The region stretches up through Westchester, into Long Island and down to central New Jersey.

Separate from the publication’s annual ranking of the best high schools in the country that's published in April, the best high schools by metro area rankings released on June 12 analyze how schools compare to each other in the same region.

NYC High Schools Ranked Among Nation's Best

U.S. News says it used the same methodology to compile the metro-area rankings as it did for the national rankings. Metro areas were matched to their corresponding core-based statistical areas as defined by the government.

U.S. News says a single one of these statistical areas may include parts of multiple states.
“We’ve heard from students, parents and school officials that they’re interested in seeing how their school compares with others in the community,” Robert Morse, chief data strategist at U.S. News, said in a news release.

“With these new rankings, residents in more than 900 metro areas nationwide can see which local schools are succeeding at educating and graduating their students.”

Here are the New York City area's top 10 schools:

1 Townsend Harris High School, Queens
2 Stuyvesant High School, Manhattan
3 High Technology High School, New Jersey
4 Baccalaureate School for Global Education, Queens
5 High School Math Science and Engineering at CCNY, Manhattan
6 Bronx High School of Science, Bronx
7 Bergen County Academies, New Jersey
8 High School of American Studies at Lehman College, Bronx
9 Staten Island Technical High School, Staten Island
10 Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies, New Jersey
