NEW YORK CITY — Interim NYPD commissioner Tom Donlon is expected to resign close to a month into his new role.

Donlon could resign as soon as Friday, Politico first reported.

Donlon took over the top cop position last month following Edward Caban's resignation amid a federal investigation into alleged corruption, Patch previously reported.

Days after his appointment, Donlon's homes were searched by federal authorities.

"On Friday, September 20, federal authorities executed search warrants at my residences. They took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department,” Donlon said in a statement at the time.

“This is not a department matter, and the department will not be commenting,” Donlon added.

Donlon did not comment on the nature of the investigation.

Jessica Tisch, who serves as Sanitation Department commissioner, and Ben Tucker, who previously served as first deputy NYPD commissioner, are viewed as top contenders for the role, according to the report.
