
NEW YORK, NY — Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall along the Gulf Coast on Thursday, but the storm is expected to continue northward and nastward, having a strong impact on the New York City-area over the weekend.
The remnants of the storm could cause some thunderstorms, heavy rain and "isolated damaging wind gusts" starting Friday and into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service and other forecasters.
"Cindy will continue to move northward into Thursday evening before a curve to the northeast occurs on Thursday night and Friday,"AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski said.

After hitting the Texas and Louisiana coastline, moisture from Tropical Storm Cindy will head North and East and arrive in the tri-state area.

"It's going to be basically your typical summertime front," said Mitchell Gaines, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of New York City as strong thunderstorms are expected to hit the region by Friday night.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Tonight
A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Saturday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 71. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph.
Sunday
A 20 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.
