Trump Selects Jay Clayton As Top Federal Prosecutor In Manhattan
Clayton has been selected as the next U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan.

NEW YORK CITY — President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Jay Clayton to be the lead federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan.
Trump made the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday, calling Clayton “a highly respected business leader, counsel and public servant.”
The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York is viewed as one of the most prestigious federal prosecutor’s offices in the nation, and past appointees have gone on to pursue elected office.

Clayton had been a corporate lawyer before becoming chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2021.
Damian Williams, the current U.S. Attorney, was appointed to the position by President Joe Biden in 2021.
