Uber Offers Discounted Rides To NYC Parks

The ride-hailing service is giving riders $10 off trips to nine outer-borough parks for the summer.

NEW YORK, NY — Getting to your favorite far-away park just got a little bit cheaper. Uber is offering $10 off rides this summer to nine parks in the outer boroughs — where the ride-hailing giant says most of its trips begin.

Riders can get the discount through Sept. 4 on up to two rides to or from Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park and Crotona Park in the Bronx; Prospect Park and Marine Park in Brooklyn; Elmhurst Park and Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens; and The Big Park and Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island.

The deal started running June 22. To take advantage of it, riders have to enter the promo code "UBERTOTHEPARK" in the payment section of the Uber app.

The discount comes as City Council lawmakers consider legislation that would tighten the city's regulatory grip on Uber and other app-based ride-hailing companies.

Uber has said the majority of its New York City trips start outside Manhattan. The company has said it's seeing the fastest growth in the outer boroughs and has argued it provides a transportation option for New Yorkers in transit-starved neighborhoods.
