🌱 Uber Sues NYC Over Rate Hike + New School Faculty Strike Ends

Here are the top five stories today in New York City:
- The union representing part-time faculty at The New School has reached a deal with the university's administration, ending a month-long strike before the semester's last week of classes. According to a statement the part-time professors will get a pay raise and increased access to health benefits. (Gothamist)
- Uber is suing the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission just days before a rate increase would go into effect for taxi and rideshare drivers. The company contends that the increase, of 7 percent in per-minute rates and 16 percent per-mile, would "irreparably damage" its reputation by leading to a fare hike for customers. (NBC New York)
- A judge has tossed out a lawsuit challenging the rezoning to Governor's Island approved by the City Council last year which is set to make way for office, hotel and commercial development in the park, including a "Center for Climate Solutions" research hub. The Manhattan resident leading the challenge said they plan on appealing the decision. (Gothamist)
- More than 3.9 million straphangers rode on the subway system last Thursday–a number that hasn't been reached since March 12, 2020, before the city's COVID-19 restrictions went into place–MTA officials said. (Subscription/The New York Daily News)
- State lawmakers are considering approving a pay increase for themselves this month, from their current $110,000 per year, in a small window before their scheduled legislative session begins in January. Governor Kathy Hochul has indicated that she is open to the idea. (Gothamist)
