Video Shows Subway Rider Solving Rubik’s Cube With Eyes Closed; Commuters Unimpressed

The apparent Rubik's Cube prodigy was seen sporting a "Dragon Ball Z" outfit.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Facing constant delays, scorching heat and packed cars, subway riders don’t get fazed by much.

Not even a fellow commuter apparently solving a Rubik’s Cube at lightning speed. In a “Dragon Ball Z” outfit. With his eyes seemingly shut.

Video appearing to show such a feat emerged last week. A 39-second clip by city street photographer Sheldon Serkin captured an unidentified man rapidly turning the pieces of a Rubik’s Cube — using just one hand at a time.

Eyes either closed or peering down, the prodigy seems to be in the kind of meditative state you might associate with a martial arts warrior.

Perhaps just as noteworthy, the commuters next to him are looking away, too. A woman to his left stares into her phone. A man to his right does the same.

At the end of the clip, Rubik’s Cube solved, the maestro simply picks up his backup and makes to leave.

In the hoax-ridden online world (did you see the one about the prankster who imitated Reince Priebus?), some Twitter users voiced skepticism. One posited that Serkin had simply posted a tape of someone un-solving a Rubik’s Cube in reverse, an allegation the photographer rejected.

Other Twitter users were impressed – definitely more so than the riders in the video.

“That guy's just being awesome by being himself. Highest of fives to that dude,” tweeted @JustinTGann.

It wasn't clear what train Serkin was riding or when he shot the video. Patch has reached out for more information, and we'll update this story if we hear back.
