What's Open, Closed On 4th Of July In NYC
Here's a look at what will be open and closed for Independence Day.

NEW YORK, NY — Many New Yorkers will get a midweek break for Wednesday's Independence Day holiday. You might have to adjust your routine as some businesses and services will be closed.
But not everyone gets a day off. Thousands of NYPD cops will be on the streets ahead of the massive Fourth of July fireworks show over the East River. And the MTA is planning to run extra service on Tuesday to help people flee the city for the holiday weekend.
Here's a look at what will be open and closed as New Yorkers celebrate America's birthday.

Government Buildings
- City, state and federal government buildings, including courts and post offices, are closed. New York City public schools got out for the summer last week.
- Mail will not be delivered.
- Most banks will be closed.
- Libraries will be closed.
Transportation

- New York City subways and buses will run on a Saturday schedule on Wednesday, July 4. That means no express service on the 6 and 7 lines and no B train service at all. And several bus lines won't run on all or part of their routes.
- There will be increased subway service before and after the East River fireworks show on the 4, 7, A, C, F and N lines and the 42nd Street shuttle.
- N trains will stop at Whitehall Street and Rector Street via the Montague tunnel to serve crowds in Battery Park watching the Coney Island and Jersey City fireworks shows Wednesday night.
- The Long Island Rail Road will run extra trains from Penn Station starting in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 3. See more information here.
- The Metro-North Railroad will also run extra trains from Grand Central Terminal on Tuesday afternoon. See more information here. The railroad will operate on a Sunday schedule on Wednesday.
Parking
- Alternate side parking rules will be suspended.
Trash pickup
- Garbage, recycling and organics collection will not occur on Wednesday, July 4. There will also be no street cleaning.
- Residents whose usual garbage or organics pickup day is Wednesday should put their trash out after 4 p.m. on Independence Day.
- If Wednesday is your normal recycling pickup day, put your recycling out after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 for pickup on Wednesday, July 11.
