What's Open, Closed On New Year's Day In New York City

Here's a guide to who's shutting their doors for the holiday.

NEW YORK, NY — Many New York City offices and businesses will shut their doors on New Year's Day as the city prepares to spring back to life after the holiday season. Taking the day off is also a nice way to recover from any New Year's Eve festivities.

All city, state and federal government buildings are closed on Jan. 1, as New Year's Day is a federal holiday. It's also the last day of winter recess for New York City public schools. The city's 1.1 million students return to class on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Many stores, restaurants and movie theaters will be open in case you need to pick something up or get out of your apartment for a few hours.
