NEW YORK CITY — A woman gave birth to a baby girl aboard a New York City subway train Wednesday morning, according to a report.

A 25-year-old woman was on a southbound W train at the 34th Street–Herald Square subway station in Manhattan around 11:30 a.m when she alerted passengers she was about to give birth, PIX11 reported.

Other passengers helped deliver the baby and cut the baby’s umbilical cord, witnesses told the outlet.

Police and EMS responded to the scene. The mother and the newborn baby were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"This is another example of New Yorkers coming together to help each other, assisted by caring transit workers and other responders, reflecting the best of the subway community and this city,” NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said in a statement.

“We are thrilled that both mother and Baby W are doing well, and look forward to welcoming both of them back aboard for a lifetime of reliable — and hopefully less dramatic — rides,” Crichlow said.
