Wrong-Way Driver Kills 1 In Smash Near Verrazano, Police Say
The driver was charged with manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

BROOKLYN, NY — A wrong-way crash near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Brooklyn left one man dead early Thursday morning, the NYPD said. The driver, 50-year-old Aleh Sheipak of Brooklyn, faces charges including manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, police said.
Sheipak was heading east in the westbound lane near exit 4 on the Belt Parkway in his 2011 Volkswagen SUV when he slammed head-on into a Honda Accord carrying three people just before 2 a.m., police said.
A 27-year-old man who was in the Honda's back seat — identified as Gerald Obah of Manhattan — was taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 29-year-old woman who was sitting in the front seat is in stable condition at the same hospital, the NYPD said. The Honda's driver, a 20-year-old man, is in stable condition at Maimonides Medical Center, police said.
Police arrested Sheipak, who is also in stable condition at Maimonides, the NYPD said. He was additionally charged with vehicular manslaughter, three counts of vehicular assault, and driving while ability impaired, police said.
