13,000+ Without Power After July 14 Storm In the HV

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Severe storms swept through the region overnight and early Friday morning, harbingers of more severe weather to come. High winds and more rain took down trees and power lines.
- O&R reported 10,033 customers out of electric power, 6,963 of them in Orange County and 1,172 in Rockland. Service is expected to be restored by 11 p.m.
- NYSEG - 1,161 customers without power, most in Columbia County.
- Cen Hud - 1,021 customers without power, mostly in Ulster and Greene counties.
- Con Ed - 762 customers without power in Westchester County, most in central Westchester.
Cen Hud officials remind residents:
Central Hudson crews have been responding to emergencies and restoring customers affected by thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Estimated restoration times are posted to this map for each outage case when they become available.
Customers are reminded to stay at least 30 feet away from any downed power lines. Remember that power lines may be entangled and hidden in fallen trees. Assume that all downed lines are live.
The severe thunderstorm warning for southern Orange County went out at 8:58 p.m. Thursday.

According to First Due Weather, it inundated the Port Jervis area in particular.
"There could have been 4" or more of rainfall, there," said Bruce Furbeck on Facebook. "Access for emergency services, including ambulances trying to reach the hospital from the bordering states was impossible for a period of time."

Last night, our area measured anywhere from 1/2 inch to 4 inches or more of rainfall, he said.
The storm washed out a section of Beverley Warren Road at Indian Brook Road near Route 9D in Putnam County. At noon, town and county public works crews were removing a car that got stuck.
He cited rainfall reports before 7 AM Friday from the National Weather Service:
- 3.42 inches at West Point
- 1.88 inches in Middletown
- 2.75 inches west of Port Jervis
- 4.50 inches near Liberty
