Advocate for Teen Dating Violence Education Speaks At Conference

The keynote speaker at today’s STOP F.E.A.R. Conference is Vicki Crompton, who became an advocate for educating teens and others about teen dating violence after her daughter’s murder. Her 15-year-old-daughter Jenny was murdered by her abusive boyfriend in her home in 1986. Since then, Crompton has spoken to thousands of students, parents and community groups about her story.

The 15^th annual STOP F.E.A.R. conference at Rockland Community College focuses on teen dating violence, the warning signs and what parents, friends and communities can do. The STOP F.E.A.R Coalition, Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Rockland County Police Chiefs Association, Verizon Wireless Hopeline and Center for Safety & Change (formerly Rockland Family Shelter) are presenting the program. The conference, which is filled to capacity runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Ellipse room of the Technology Center at RCC. It is a criminal justice subcommitte program. 

“This is such a crucial and timely issue, particularly in light of the recent teenage sexual assault convictions that have occurred in our county,” commented Kiera Pollock, Director of Special Victims Services at Center for Safety & Change.

In 2003, Crompton co-authored the book, “Saving Beauty From the Beast,” which tells her daughter’s story and the stories of other teens and their parents. 

Center for Safety & Change serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes.
