Free Eye Screening For Young Children

A free eye screening program for children between the ages of  two and five years old will be offered on Monday, Oct. 8.  The program helps identify children with amblyopia and is conducted in partnership with the Ira G. Ross Eye Institute. Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) and the Lions Club of North Rockland teamed up for the free screening.

The exams will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Senator Carlucci’s District Office at 95 South Middletown Road in Nanuet. Registration is required. Anyone interested in having their child participate should call the office at (845) 623-3627.

Specialty trained Lions Club volunteers will conduct asimple photo vision screening for children whose parents have registered for the quick, noninvasive test.  Results will then be read and evaluated by professionals at the Ira G. Ross Eye Institute. Parents will be informed of any results that may require further testing, including follow up information provided.

“Early eye examinations are critical for the health and well being of children, and this event that we are hosting will hopefully ensure that every child has the gift of sight for many years to come,” said Carlucci.  “I would like to thank the Lions Club of North Rockland for working with my office to arrange this free event for every child to take advantage.”
