Law Enforcement Officials Support Early Education

Hudson Valley law enforcement leaders will visit pre-kindergarten students at the West Street Child Care Center in Spring Valley on Thursday to read to children enrolled in the center’s early learning program. Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe, Scarsdale Chief of Police John Brogan and Orange County Sheriff Carl Dubois discuss the value of high-quality early childhood education as a highly effective way to prevent crime.  They will assist in building momentum for a year-long campaign for quality early education by Fight Crime: Invest in Kids New York. 

Zugibe, Brogan and Dubois, who will read to the pre-school students, will be joined by State Senator David Carlucci (D–New City) and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffe (D–Suffern).

Zugibe and Brogan will emphasize that programs in New York must be high quality to get the best return on investment. Senior law enforcement officials will call on Hudson Valley legislators and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to strengthen the quality of early childhood development programs by implementing QUALITYstarsNY, a quality rating and improvement system, and to work to ensure that more children have access to these programs as critical steps to reduce crime and save taxpayer dollars over the long term.
