Legislature Honors Championship Youth Sports Teams

The Rockland County Legislature recognized two youth sports teams for winning state and regional championship titles at Tuesday's meeting.

Legislators Ed Day, Frank Sparaco and Alden H. Wolfe recognized the New City/Suffern/Congers 9-10 year-old Girls Softball All-Star Team for winning the Eastern Regional Championship.

“What is very unique about this team,” said Legislator Day, “is the fact that the players came from three community little league programs.  In short order they had to learn about each other’s strengths and playing styles and they had to make it all work on the field.  And it worked. The team was undefeated at the district, section and state tournaments.  They are to be admired for their camaraderie, their skillful play and their enthusiasm.”

Legislators Douglas Jobson and Michael Grant presented the Stony Point Little League’s Majors All-Star Baseball team with Certificates of Appreciation in honor of capturing the NYS State Championship title in the 11-12 year-old division.  The team went on to compete in the Eastern
Regional Championships and a chance to become the first little league baseballteam from Rockland in 40 years to qualify for the Little League Series, but was eliminated after a loss to the New Jersey championship team.
Legislators Jobson and Grant commended the team for their hard work, their sportsmanship, and the sacrifices made during the long season.
