Back-To-School Drive Seeks Donations for Needy Kids

School supplies can be dropped off at Clarkstown Town Hall in New City.

A visit to Clarkstown Town Hall in New City usually means someone is paying their taxes, picking up a fishing license or maybe even getting married. But between now and September, a trip to Town Hall could help a needy child be better prepared for school.

The Town of Clarkstown is participating in a back-to-school drive in which school supplies are being collected for children whose families can't afford to buy basic items such as pens, notebooks and backpacks.

"In this economic climate, it is especially important that we all try to help our neighbors in need by helping our children be prepared as they get ready to go back to school," said Clarkstown town Supervisor Alex Gromack.

The drive is on now through Sept. 10  and benefits families being assisted by two local not-for-profit organizations,  Advocating for Change in Spring Valley and People to People in Nanuet. Both groups are collecting school supplies to distribute to students before the start of the school year.

Clarkstown is asking town employees and residents to donate supplies.  A donation box is located in the lobby at Clarkstown Town Hall, 10 Maple Ave.
