Brinks Robber Who Played Role In Murder of Two Nyack Police Officers Dies

Marilyn Jean Buck, who took part in Oct. 20, 1981 Brinks robbery, died of cancer in Brooklyn.

Marilyn Jean Buck, who took part in the Brinks armored truck robbery and murder of two Nyack police officer and a Brinks guard, died of cancer Tuesday in Brooklyn at age 62.

Buck was recently released from a medical center in a Texas federal prison on account of her uterine cancer.

Buck was a white member of the Black Liberation Army, which stole approximately $1.8 million from a Brinks armored truck at the Nanuet Mall on Oct. 20, 1981. Brinks guard Peter Paige was killed in a shotout at the mall.

Nyack police halted the robbers at the Route 59 entrance to the New York State Thruway shortly after the incident. A gunfight ensued, resulting in the death of Nyack police Sergeant Edward O'Grady and Patrolman Waverly Brown. Detective Arthur Keenan was wounded in the gunfight.

Buck was serving a 60 year sentence for the Brinks robbery-muder and the bombing of government buildings, including a 1983 blast at the Capitol Building.

The deadly robbery took place while Nyack still had its own police force. Today, police services for the village are provided by the Town of Orangetown's police department.
