Clarkstown GOP Nominating Convention

Clarkstown Republicans meet tonight to nominate candidates for seven town wide positions and recommend a candidate for county executive

 

Clarkstown Republicans hold their nominating convention tonight at Clarkstown Town Hall to nominate candidates for seven town offices and recommend one candidate for Rockland County executive. The Clarkstown positions up for election are town supervisor, two town board seats, superintendent of highways and town clerk.

Clarkstown GOP Chairman Bob Axelrod said there is one Republican candidate for each of the town races.

“We have people that stepped forward for the positions,” he said.

Republican incumbents are running for re-election in four of the races – Councilman George Hoehmann, Highway Superintendent Wayne Ballard and Judges Craig Johns and Scott Ugell.  The names of the other candidates will be released at the convention. Democrats hold the other positions: Town Supervisor Alex Gromack, Councilwoman Stephanie Hausner and Town Clerk Justin Sweet.

Axelrod said the Clarkstown GOP Committee cannot nominate a candidate for county executive but he will make a special motion to recommend Legislator Ed Day without reservation for the position.  The Rockland County Republican Committee’s Nominating Convention takes place on Thursday, May 9. 

The Clarkstown Democrats Committee will hold its nominating convention on Thursday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at Clarkstown Town Hall and that will be immediately followed by the Rockland County Democratic Committee’s nominating convention.
