Construction Slows Traffic On Middletown Road

County work on road between Route 59 and Smith Road in Nanuet will continue into next week

Construction crews have been at work on Middletown Road in Nanuet since last Tuesday and will continue into early next week.  Rockland County Deputy Highway Superintendent Andy Connors said the workers are milling off the top layer and will put down two inches of asphalt on either Monday or Tuesday.

That section of Middletown is three lanes wide with one lane in each direction and a center turning lane. Connors said that has allowed vehicles to move in both directions although there are stoppages when equipment is moved.

As the repaving winds up on that section of Middletown, crews will shift further north to Little Tor Road between West Clarkstown Road and Milich.

“We should be milling that on Monday,” said Connors.

One resurfacing project already completed is a two-mile stretch of Strawtown Road.  Connors said the portion of Strawtown between Davenport and Wesley was finished on Thursday.  Next on the list is Sickletown Road between Towline Road and Old Route 59 and also Green Road.

Drivers can expect to encounter more road improvement projects over the next three months.  Connors said the county will resurface approximately 40 roads between now and the end of July.

“We have a pretty aggressive resurfacing schedule this year,” he said.
