Couple Honored In Jewish Community Heroes Project

Shevy and Dov Oliver helped build Hillel at Rockland Commnity College over past two years.

The Jewish Federation of Rockland County says that Shevy and Dov Oliver, the directors of the Hillel at Rockland Commnity College, are winners of its Jewish Community Heroes project.

The couple has been working with Jewish students at RCC for the past two years, building the Hillel group into a center for Jewish activity and identity at the college.

The three-month project involved traditional and social media to build momentum in the community. Ultimately, the nominees narrowed to five in the final weeks. They include the Olivers; Rabbi Chaim and Chaya Ehrenreich of the Chabad Jewish Education Center in Chestnut Ridge; Rabbi Shmuel and Devorah Gancz of the Chabad of Suffern; Brenda Lender, a longtime community volunteer with strong ties to Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School and JCC Rockland; and Sara Fuerst, who began Kosher Troops, a grassroots organization that sends kosher care packages to Jewish American soldiers stationed abroad.
