D.A.: Repeat Drunken Driver Indicted

Sheriff's officer spotted driver crossing over into oncoming traffic.

A Maryland resident arrested in Clarkstown in May was indicted today on felony drunken driving charges by a Rockland County grand jury in New City.

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said a Rockland Sheriff's Department officer spotted Nery Uvaldo Alarcon-Duarte, 32, of 6609 Furman Parkway, Riverdale, MD, swerving into oncoming traffic on South Little Tor Road on May 6 at 3:49 a.m. Zugibe said the officer stopped Alarcon-Duarte and noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage and that the driver had glassy eyes, impaired speech and motor coordination. Alarcon-Duarte's blood alcohol content was a .14 percent, Zugibe said.

Alarcon-Duarte was indicted on a felony charge because of a previous DWI conviction in 2006 in the Village of Spring Valley.
