Progress on the downtown New City renovation project can be seen with work that has resumed at a park that is slated to become a focal point for the project.
Workers got back to work at Kevin Landau Park at the corner of Main Street and Congers Road last week, with cement being poured to create sidewalks for the renovated park adjacent to the New City firehouse.
Kevin Landau Park is envisioned to serve as a celebration of the gateway to downtown New City and provide gathering spaces and amenities for visitors. New features include a fountain and gazebo in a plaza.

The park is named for Kevin Landau, 19, a New City volunteer firefighter who was killed Sept. 24, 1975 while answering a fire call in New City. In addition to the park, a fire department scholarship created in Landau's memory has been honoring students for their dedication to the community since 1976.
