Emergency Operations Centers On Standby

Rockland County’s Fire & Emergency Services Coordinator Gordon Wren said the Emergency Operations Center has not yet been activated. He said a limited operation might be put in effect later today after late morning and early afternoon conference calls with the National Weather Service, New York State and Orange & Rockland about the snowstorm.

“I don’t see any reason to do it right now,” said Wren, adding if power outages occur then the center will be operational. 

Wren said people should be leaving work early and there should be light traffic at rush hour.  The heavier snowfall is expected late afternoon. He noted residents should avoid nonessential driving during the snowstorm.

Clarkstown has not made a decision about activating its Emergency Operations Center.  Officials are monitoring the weather and progress of the storm. The town cancelled garbage collection for Saturday. Service will resume for the next regularly scheduled garbage pick up.

Orangetown is not planning to open its emergency management center as of early Friday morning. Highway crews are out sanding and preparing the streets.
