Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in conjunction with New York Blood Center (NYBC), will sponsor a blood drive in honor of Paul A. Fortino on Monday, September 24 and Monday, October 1, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., at 138 Main Street, Highland Falls.
The blood drive and bone marrow registry drive will be held in honor of Paul Fortino, a 58 year old father of two from Fort Montgomery, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Paul is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment and will likely require both blood and platelet transfusions. At the completion of the chemotherapy, Paul hopes to receive a bone marrow transplant.
These drives are important not only for Paul but for all patients seeking treatment. Volunteer blood donors are needed each and every day to replenish the community blood supply. Individuals who have not registered with the National Marrow Donor Program’s Be The Match can do so at the September 24th drive.
