Geese Control Slated For Three School Campuses

The Clarkstown School Board will vote Thursday night on a resolution hiring a Congers-based firm to manage the geese populations at Clarkstown North and South high schools and Felix Festa Middle School. Recently, members of the Clarkstown North PTSA spoke about the problems caused by geese and their droppings on the fields and asked the board to take action.

The resolution before the board will cost $4,680 for a seasonal agreement of eight weeks for Fair Game Goose Management Services, Inc. to control the geese populations at the schools. 

The board is expected to discuss a recommendation to relocate the North High School concession stand to a different location.  The original proposal included in the Capitol Projects Resolution of 2011 called for renovating the current facility on the west side of the campus near Congers Road. The new suggestion is to construct a 240-square-foot concession stand and upgrade its design to include electricity.

The relocated concession stand would be near the press box and adjacent to the main turf field close to parking and school buildings.  The added cost of $150,000 for the relocation and upgrade were included in the 2012-2013 budget, which was passed by school district voters in May.

The board will congratulate the New City/Congers/ Suffern girls 9-10 All Stars softball team that won the District 18, Section 4, New York State and Eastern Regional championships.

Additionally, the board will vote on:

• A request for a new club at Clarkstown North High School, the “Ignite Democracy Club”

• Accepting the donation of a Smart Board and its installation from the Bardonia PTA, a value of $3,509.

• Accepting the donation of a mascot costume, paint and stencils valued at $200 from the Lakewood PTA

• Accepting a $160 donation from Dr. William Heebink for the planetarium at Clarkstown South High School
