SPRING VALLEY, NY — A jury has convicted a Spring Valley man in a slaying that started as a fight outside of a local watering hole.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, II announced on Monday the conviction by a Rockland County jury of Oscar Garcia-Garcia, of Spring Valley, for second-degree murder for the killing that took place on December 29, 2022.

Village of Spring Valley police responded to the area after receiving reports of an unresponsive man lying in the road. Officers located the man on Johnson Street, adjacent to North Myrtle Ave.
Garcia-Garcia was charged along with a co-defendant, Eustaquio Diaz-Gutierrez, who chose a trial by judge, rather than jury. Both trials took place at the same time and were presided over by Judge Kevin F. Russo, who found Diaz-Gutierrez guilty of misdemeanor third-degree assault.

"The defendant in this case was convicted by a jury of twelve of his peers for murder in the second degree," the district attorney said. "He engaged in a horrific act of brutality that resulted in the death of the victim. I would like to commend First Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Devlin for obtaining the conviction in this case. The defendant is now facing a lengthy prison term for his actions on December 29, 2022."
Garcia-Garcia was remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending sentencing. He faces up to 25 years to life in state prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in June.
