Hospice, Hospital Team Up For Educational Program

Free event looks to bust myths about hospice care.

Just as United Hospital of Rockland has broken ground for a new hospice home in New City, the organization is joining forces with Nyack Hospital for a free educational program about hospice.

Real Support for Those Who Support Others: Misconceptions, Myths and Straight Talk About Hospice, is set for Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Nyack Hospital.

The program, according to Nyack Hospital, is designed to explain hospice programs and when is the right time to contact United Hospice to help in caring for someone with a serious progressive illness.

This program is being presented by Nyack Hospital internist Richard Handelsman, DO, FACP, and Bonnie Walsh, RN, CHPN, assistant director, United Hospice of Rockland.

Hospital and United Hospice officials say that many people do not access hospice care because they are not sure about how it works and who can access hospice programs.
