I-87 Traffic Stop Leads To Major Drug Seizure, Arrest Of 2: NYSP

TOWN OF RAMAPO, NY — Potentially deadly illegal drugs are off the streets, thanks to an I-87 traffic stop.

New York State Police say that on Friday, troopers out of Tarrytown, who were participating in the Rockland County Violent Crime Suppression Detail, arrested two men on I-87, in Ramapo, for possession of "a large quantity" of narcotics with intent to sell.

Around 8:26 p.m., troopers stopped a 2019 Honda Pilot on the Thruway. They identified the driver as 57-year-old Robert Morales, of Rensselaer, and his passenger as 51-year-old Irving Prado, of the Bronx.

Once an investigation was started, K-9 Odin alerted police about the vehicle. After a search of the vehicle, state police seized around 48.5 grams of fentanyl and 56 grams of crack cocaine.

Morales and Prado were arrested and charged with two counts of felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession narcotic drug weight ½ oz or more; and felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell.

Both men were arraigned in Clarkstown town court and ordered held at the Rockland County Jail. They are scheduled to reappear in Ramapo town court on Tuesday.
