In Clarkstown – 7,500 Without Power And 39 Closed Roads

As of late Monday afternoon, Clarkstown officials said Orange & Rockland reported 7,500 customers without service.   Throughout Rockland County there were still 19,500 customers who do not have electricity.

Clarkstown reports 39 closed roads and 42 partially blocked town roads.  Roads are being opened as O&R crews identify live wires and de-energize them. One or two O&R crews have been assigned to work with the Town's Highway Department to assess the wires and remove them from trees or branches.  

Clarkstown states that O&R plans to bring in 300 tree-trimming linemen and is calling more utility crews in and will not be releasing any crews in anticipation of the approaching Nor’easter.

Clarkstown Schools will be closed Tuesday. All polling locations will be open for voting in the Presidential Election except for Woodglen Elementary School, which sustained storm damage. Voters are being directed to go to New City Elementary School to vote.  Questions about the election or polling places should be directed to the Rockland County Board of Elections at 638-5172. 

Community College Field House is open to shelter residents overnight. Residents can go to the Central Nyack Community Center, Congers Community Center, Pascack Community Center and Street Community Center to get warm and charge electronics. Some of the shelters have free Wi Fi.

Cablevision Systems Corporation announced Optimum customers can receive credit for any full or partial day during which they were unable to access Optimum services as a result of Hurricane Sandy, even if the disruption was caused by a loss of electrical power. The company is asking customers to call after their Optimum service is restored, so it can calculate and apply the full credit due.
