Indian Point Set to Test Nuke Warning Sirens
172 sirens within 10-mile area of power plant part of emergency warning system.

Entergy plans on testing the 172 emergency notification sirens in place within the 10-mile radius of the Indian Point nuclear power plant along the Hudson River in Buchanan.
The full-volume test is set for between 10:30 and 11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the utility. The sirens are located in Rockland, Westchester and Orange Counties.
The sirens are part of an emergency notification system that would alert the public to check for bulletins on the plant in case of a nuclear emergency.

In Clarkstown, New City and Congers are within the 10-mile zone. If you live, work or travel through a neigbhorhood that has one of the sirens, they are distinctive - and loud. The sirens have a different sound than the large horns used by some volunteer fire departments to alert their members to an emergency call.
