Library Board Officer Candidate Discussion Expected

The New City Library Board of Trustees holds its final meeting of 2012 tonight at 7 p.m. It will also be the last meeting that Marianne Silver will attend as the library’s interim director. She informed the board several weeks ago of her intent to return to her position as head of adult services.

The library trustees will officially receive the results of last week’s election and budget vote. Ed Kallen was re-elected and two new members were elected, George Jacobson and Victor Burger. Kallen was appointed last September to finish the term of Barry Warner. Jacobson and Burger will be filling the seats currently held by Christian Cortelli, who ran for re-election and lost, and Terri Thal, who did not run again.

The voters passed the budgets for the New City and West Nyack libraries.

Candidates for board officers are expected to be discussed.  The positions are president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. Currently, Joseph Reiter is president, Tom Ninan is vice president, Jeffrey Greenberg is treasurer and Kallen is secretary.

The board is scheduled to be updated on the new director search. Ninan chairs that committee and last week said the members narrowed the semifinalists to two candidates, one from Texas and one from New York. Silver began serving as interim director in mid May when the board appointed her after Executive Director Chuck McMorran left.
