Lowey Backs Carlucci For State Senate

Clarkstown town clerk looks to be replacement for outgoing Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-New City.

U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, whose Congressional District represents New City, today endorsed Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci in his bid for the Democratic nomination for state Senate.

"David Carlucci has the experience to deliver for his district, and his attitude and abilities are just what the district and state needs," said Lowey.   "I look forward to working with David to protect taxpayers at every level of government, create jobs in our communities, strengthen our schools, and keep our families and streets safe and secure."

Carlucci, 29, who is in his third term as town clerk, wants to be Rockland's replacement for state Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-New City, who at 79 is battling leukemia and has decided not to seek re-election. Morahan's 38th state Senate District includes all of Rockland County and parts of Orange County

"I am very honored to receive the backing of Congresswoman Lowey," Carlucci said. "Her record of service is one that will serve as an example for me as I work for the people of Rockland and Orange Counties. I gladly accept the confidence the congresswoman has placed in me, and am ready to lead the charge in reforming the way the New York State Senate does business."

Other top figures in the race for Morahan's seat include Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and county Legislator Ed Day, both Republicans who have announced they want the GOP nomination for state Senate.
