Rockland Man Accused Of Breaking Into Animal Shelter To Retrieve Dog

He faces a trespassing charge

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A dog went missing from the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter and now a 20-year-old Pomona resident faces a trespassing charge.

The Hi-Tor employee discovered Saturday that a dog lodged in their shelter was missing. The dog had been brought to the shelter on Friday after it was found wandering unattended in Ramapo, police said.

Investigating Rockland County Sheriff's deputies learned that the dog, named "Sky," was owned a man who lives near the shelter.

They allege that after the shelter was closed Friday, he got past the locks and removed Sky.

He was located and arrested by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office. Charged with third-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, he was processed and released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Ramapo Justice Court on Oct. 6.
