UPDATE: Memorial Created At Fatal Crash Site
Clarkstown Police investigation looking into possibility speed was a factor in the Sunday night accident that took the lives of two Congers men
A memorial with enlarged family photos, a floral arrangement and memorial candles has been created at the scene of Sunday night’s fatal car crash at the intersection of Strawtown Road and Cairnsmuir Lane in New City. , from Congers were killed when their vehicle stuck a street sign, hit a house and ran into a tree. They were graduates of Clarkstown North High School.
The items placed at the memorial include a basketball, Jets football cap and memorial candles and floral bouquets. Drivers passing the memorial were slowing down on Wednesday to look at it. Memorial candles were also placed near the tree that their vehicle hit. Debris from the car was still visible on the lawn.

Clarkstown police continue their investigation into the crash.
“The investigation continues into the cause and any contributing factors for the accident which occurred late Sunday night,” reported Sgt. Jo Anne Fratianni. “The accident investigation team is looking into the possibility that speed may have played a role in the crash, but this will not be confirmed until the investigation is concluded.”

The department’s accident investigation team may take several weeks to complete their work. An autopsy conducted on Monday determined the cause of death as multiple fractures and other injuries. The results of toxicology tests for drugs and alcohol are not expected for a few weeks.
