NYC Man Accused of Trying to Use Forged Credit Cards

JC Penny workers suspected something was wrong, called police.

A New York City man is accused of attempting to use several forged credit cards to buy merchandise at Palisades Center mall in West Nyack, according to Clarkstown police.

Police said Gary Deckard, 45, is charged with five counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, fourth degree grand larceny, a misdemeanor, second-degree identity theft, a misdemeanor, and third-degree unlawful possession of personal identification, a misdemeanor, in connection with a 5:15 p.m. incident Friday at the JC Penny store.

Police said store workers called police when they suspected credit cards being used by Deckard at the store to buy merchandise and gift certificates were forgeries. Police said an investigation determine that Deckard have five forged credit cards.

Deckard was arrested and arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court in New City before Judge Eric Thorsen, who ordered him held at the Rockland County Correctional Center in New City without bail pending a hearing on Wednesday.
