Orange County Democrats Back Carlucci for State Senate
Carlucci seeking Rockland Democratic endorsement tonight.

Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci received the endorsement of the Orange County Democratic Committee Wednesday night in his campaign for the state Senate's 38th District seat, which includes all of Rockland and part of Orange County.
The endorsement came during the committee's convention. Carlucci also received the backing of Orangetown Democrats in Rockland County, who met for their local convention Wednesday evening in Nyack.
"I'm couldn't be more pleased and humbled, and I want to thank everyone who showed up tonight to participate." said Carlucci at the Orange County convention. "It's important that we all come together this fall to elect someone who is willing to fight for reform and not just use it as a campaign slogan. I am that candidate. I'm looking forward to the Rockland County Convention tonight where we hope to gain their support as well."

Rockland County Democrats gather for their convention tonight at Clarkstown Town Hall. Among those also interested in the Democratic nod for the state Senate race include Upper Nyack businessman Lou Tharp, Grant Valentine of Chestnut Ridge and Tuxedo town Supervisor Peter M. Dolan.
Carlucci, a 29-year-old New City Democrat, is hoping to succeed state Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-New City, who at age 79 is fighting leukema and has decided not to seek re-election.

In his acceptance remarks, Carlucci outlined his three point plan for reform which has become the centerpiece of his campaign: Full disclosure of outside income by legislators; lowering campaign donation limits; and, and independent non-partisan redistricting.
"We can't even begin to tackle issues like crippling property taxes until we change the way the Senate does business," Carlucci said. "History has proven over and over that until we clean up the mess in Albany, important issues will continue to be used as political footballs and nothing of substance will be accomplished."
In addition to gaining the Orange County endorsement on Wednesday evening, Carlucci received the backing of U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey Wednesday morning. Lowey's district includes New City.
Lowey spokesman Matthew Dennis said Lowey has worked with Carlucci for several years in his role as town clerk. Dennis said Lowey has been impressed by how hard he works, the results he achieves for residents of Rockland County, and how well he keeps in touch with those he serves. Dennis said Lowey is confident Carlucci will run a strong campaign and be an effective state senator.
