A two-car accident on the southbound side of the Palisades Interstate Parkway during this morning's commute snarled traffic in parts of New City. The accident, which took place south of the New Hempstead Road interchange on the Parkway, backed up traffic on the parkway and created a traffic jam on New Hempstead Road that stretched to Route 45. Motorists who did not know about the accident tried to get on the southbound entrance to the parkway at New Hempstead Road, only to find traffic on the parkway at a standstill from the 8:30 a.m. accident. Motorists used the grassy patch alongside the parkway entrance to make u-turns and head back out onto New Hempstead Road.
