“Paws” For Reading And Fiddle Music For Dancing

Third Annual Barn Dance With Fiddle Music

When: Friday, Nov. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Cost: $10 per person

Description: Join a fun family event with contra dancing and live fiddle music. Raffle and cider and donuts will be available. 

Kids Can Read With Therapy Dogs

Where: New City Library, 220 North Main Street, New City

When: Saturday, Nov. 9 from 11am to 12:30 p.m. 

Cost: Free

Description: Paws for Reading, a program of the Hudson Valley Visiting Pet 
Program that helps children learn to read through the use of therapy dog and 
handler teams, is visiting the library. Children receive a 15 minute one-on-one time slot to read with the dogs which are all certified, trained, tested and insured therapy animals. The session is open to children who are beginning or struggling readers who reside in the Clarkstown Central School District and in-person registration at the Library is under way.

The program will also host a Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D. ®) training workshop from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for those who want to learn how to work with their dogs in this special literacy program. The session will take place in Valley Cottage. Read here for more information.  

United Hospice Holds Spin Benefit

Where: Jewish Community Center, 450 West Nyack Road, West Nyack

When: Sunday, Nov. 3 beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Cost: $25 registration and sponsorships suggested

Description: Spin for Hospice is a first volunteer-driven fundraiser initiated by a long-time Direct Care volunteer and volunteer committee to benefit Hospice. Get in shape and raise money for UHR at the same. Choose from three 45-minute classes: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Adult Class, 12:30 p.m.to 1:15 p.m. Adult Class or 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Teen Class. All fitness levels are welcome. Contributors can sponsor a spinner or make a donation directly to Hospice. Pre-registration is suggested but not required.
