Police: Eight Ounces of Cocaine Found in Car

Man, woman from Troy charged with drug possession after car is stopped on Thruway for traffic violation.

A man and a woman from upstate New York have been charged with cocaine possession after their car was stopped on the New York State Thruway for traffic violations in Clarkstown, according to State Police.

Police said troopers based in Haverstraw stopped a 2001 Chevy Impala driven by Eric Rodriguez, 30 of Troy, at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. During the traffic stop, troopers discovered that neither Rodriguez nor his passenger, Jennifer Feris, 30, of Troy, have a valid driver's license.

In their investigation, police said troopers found more than eight ounces of cocaine in the passenger compartment of the Impala.

Rodriguez and Feris were both arrested and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and and criminal possession of controlled substance in the third degree - possession with intent to sell, police said. 

Additionally, Rodriguez was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Rodriguez and Feris were arraigned before Clarkstown Town Judge Scott Ugell in New City and ordered held in the Rockland County Correctional Center in New City without bail pending a Town Court hearing on Monday in New City.
