Police: Man Accused in Petty Theft Threatened Witness
West Nyack man charged with going back to gas station and confronting attendant after being arrested on charges of stealing $28 worth of food.
A 28-year-old West Nyack man accused of stealing $28 worth of food from a Nanuet gas station has been hit with additional charges of threatening a witness, according to Clarkstown police.
Norman James was charged with petty larceny and possession of stolen property on Tuesday after the attendant at the Mobil On The Run station at 275 Route 59 reported to police at 4:20 a.m. that a man had left without paying for items he took. James was stopped by police a few minutes after the report of the theft and was arrested. James was released on a ticket to appear in Town Court in New City on Aug. 4.
Police said that at about 8 a.m., James went back to the Mobil On The Run, where the attendant says that James threatened him for calling police and having him arrested. As a result of this confrontation, James was arrested again on charges of tampering with a witness, a felony, trespassing and harassment.

James is being held in the Rockland County Correctional Center in New City pending arraignment today in Town Court, police said.
