Police: Woman Used Trick Bag In Attempt to Steal $1,500 In Watches, Jewelry

Syracuse resident accused of trying to hide her true identity from police.

A 27-year-old Syracuse woman is being held for arraignment in Clarkstown Town Court this morning on charges that she tried to steal $1,500 worth of merchandise from a West Nyack department store by using a bag designed to defeat anti-theft devices, according to Clarkstown police.

Police said Mia Kadah also faces a series of other charges — including trying to hide her true identity from police — related to a 5:20 p.m. incident Tuesday at the Lord and Taylor department store at Palisades Center mall.

Police said Kadah is accused of putting watches and costume jewelry from the store in a shopping bag that was lined with aluminum foil. After her arrest, police said Kadah was found to have $4,200 cash, identification that did not belong to her and she had a razor blade hidden in her bra.

Kadah is accused of grand larceny, a felony, possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon, possession of an anti-security device and false personation for trying to hide her identity. Police said a check of statewide police records revealed Kadah's true identity.

She was held overnight at Clarkstown police headquarters in New City pending today's arraignment.
