RCC Foundation Scores $32K in Donations at Golf Outing

Longtime RCC worker Lorraine Sorrentino honored as Person of the Year.

The Rockland Community College Foundation reported Tuesday that it raised $32,000 in scholarship funds at its recent 27th Annual Golf Outing at Spook Rock Golf Course in Ramapo.

There were 170 golfers from businesses across Rockland County who took part in the charity outing.

"This year, in spite of the economy, the Golf Outing had the most golfers ever and was able to maintain all of the major sponsors who have supported the Outing over the years," said Don Cairns, the foundation's executive director. "Twenty-seven years ago, the foundation was begun to help support the RCC golf team who had won a championship and were invited out west to play in another tournament.  Today, that tradition of helping support students continues with more than $300,000 in scholarship assistance to students this past year.  The golf outing is one of those major sources to raise funds."

The foundation also used the outing to honor Lorraine Sorrentino of Suffern, finance officer for the foundation and the RCC Association, as "Person of the Year" for her service to the community. Sorrentino has been working at the college since 1996.

Cairns said that since its inception in 1982, the RCC Foundation has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to students for scholastic excellence and/or financial need. The Foundation also assists and enhances the academic programs of the College.
