Rockland County Man Charged In Iowa On Federal Child Porn Charges

The Rockland County DA's Office, FBI Safe Streets NY, and Stony Point PD are assisting the FBI and Iowa authorities in the investigation.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A Rockland County man has been indicted in a federal child pornography case.

U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced that a federal grand jury in Council Bluffs, Iowa returned a two-count indictment on January 29, charging two people, including a man from Rockland County, with the distribution and receipt of child pornography.

Jason J. Traina, 52, of Rockland County, was charged with distribution of child pornography. On January 31, Traina made his initial appearance in the Southern District of New York. While the government argued he should remain detained pending trial, the U.S. Magistrate Judge released Traina on conditions of home detention and location monitoring.

Carrie Marie Campbell, 40, of Council Bluffs, was charged with receipt of child pornography. On February 3, Campbell made her initial appearance in the Southern District of Iowa. She was temporarily ordered detained until a detention hearing.

Traina and Campbell each face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Council Bluffs Police Department are investigating this case, with assistance from the Rockland County District Attorney's Office, FBI Safe Streets NY, and the Stony Point Police Department.

"This arrest demonstrates my Office's unwavering commitment to protecting innocent children from exploitation," Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said. "We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners on the local, state, and federal level to make sure all minors in Rockland County and over the United States are safe. Parents should be aware that CSAM materials are easily sent across the country and it's very important to speak with your children about the dangers of speaking to people on the internet. I would like to commend all of the law enforcement agencies involved in this thorough and important investigation."
