As of Monday, Oct. 1, the Rockland Family Shelter (RFS) officially changed its name to "Center for Safety &amp; Change, Inc." Center representatives will explain the purpose in renaming the organization at the annual event commemoraing National Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Thursday. Executive Director Carolyn Fish, the board and staff of Center for Safety &amp; Change will joined at the afternoon open house by Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and District Attorney Thomas Zugibe. Since its inception in 1979, RFS has grown from an emergency shelter serving survivors of domestic violence into an agency that provides residential and non-residential programs and services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault; strategies to end gender-based violence and services to crime victims.  While the name has changed, the mission remains the same.  The center located at 9 Johnsons Lane in New City will hold the open house from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
