Rocklanders Asked To Avoid Travel During Snowstorm
County executive tells residents to only travel in an emergency as storm's heavy snow and winds worsen driving conditions.
Following a briefing on the major snowstorm, Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef issued a message to residents encouraging them to stay indoors from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. The county expected to see snow accumulations of more than 12 inches.
“Rockland has been targeted by this severe storm, and we expect to see the worst of this winter event during the late evening and early morning hours, where below freezing temperatures, poor visibility, and wind gusts of up to 30 mph are anticipated,” said Vanderhoef. “If at all possible, I urge residents not to drive during this period of time.”
All Rockland County public bus service has been suspended except for Route #59, which ends at 7 p.m. TOR bus service stopped operating at 5 p.m.
