Route 9W Traffic Still Detoured Due To Downed Poles And Wires

Route 9W closed near Route 304 since 8:30 a.m.

 

Traffic continues to be detoured off Route 9W between Routes 303 and 304 while repair work continues to restore power.  A tree fell around 8:30 a.m. knocking down two poles and about 100 yards of wire.  Orange & Rockland spokesman Michael Donovan said the repairs should be completed by 5 p.m.

In the meantime traffic is very heavy along the Causeway, Congers Road and other alternates to 9W and Clarkstown police are directing traffic.

Donovan said five customers are still without power in the vicinity of 437 Route 9W. He said, “It’s a hard place to repair,” because it is on a curve just south of the 9W and Route 304 intersection. Originally, 950 customers lost service and all but five had it restored within an hour. 

As of 5 p.m., westbound traffic on Lake Road/Congers Road was backed up from Ridge Road in New City to 9W in Congers. eastbound traffic is backed up to Stonewall Lane, which is the first residential street on Lake Road after the causeway.

According to the traffic map, traffic on Route 303 is very slow.

As of 7 p.m. traffic is still backed up severely on Lake Road in Congers. 

As of 9 p.m. traffic is no longer backed up in Congers
